BSN Round 4 (Regular Season): San German lose to Cangrejeros

After 4 rounds played we can already see who rules in the BSN and who belongs to weaker ones. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

Round 4 most important game was a defeat of league's leader Atleticos (5-2). They were defeated by sixth ranked Cangrejeros (3-2) 97-88 on Tuesday night. It may be a crucial game in the contest for the top position in the league. San German was trailing by 1 point at halftime but managed to get 9-point lead after three quarters before a 33-15 charge of Santurce, which allowed them to win the game. Cangrejeros made 21-of-23 free shots (91.3 percent) during the game. Cangrejeros had a 32-21 advantage in offensive rebounds. Worth to mention a great performance of American guard Malik Beasley (196-1996, college: FSU) who helped to win the game recording 23 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists and the former international point guard Angel Rodriguez (180-1992, college: Miami, FL) who added 22 points and 6 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side guard Andre Curbelo (183-2001, college: Southern Miss) responded with a double-double by scoring 14 points, 15 assists and 4 steals. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Santurce moved-up to second place, which they share with Caguas and Guaynabo. San German at the other side still keeps top position with two games lost. They share it with Arecibo. They were replaced at the leadership position by Arecibo. San German will play next round against strong Guaynabo trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Santurce will try to continue on its current victory against sixth ranked Carolina at home.
The game had a very big importance for third-ranked Capitanes as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Capitanes defeated 5th ranked Gigantes in Arecibo 123-116. The winners were led by international forward RJ Melendez (201-2002, college: MSU) who scored that evening 35 points (!!!) and 5 rebounds and Jack McVeigh supported him with 26 points and 9 assists. Even 24 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists by American forward Kristian Doolittle (201-1997, college: Oklahoma, agency: Pensack Sports) did not help to save the game for Carolina. Gigantes' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. As mentioned above they are at the top of the standings, which they share with San German. Carolina at the other side dropped to the sixth place with two games lost. Carolina will play next round against league's leader Bayamon trying to get back on the winning streak. Arecibo will try to continue on its current victory against sixth ranked Quebradillas on the road.
Leading Vaqueros (4-2) recorded its second loss in Aguada on Tuesday night. Visitors were defeated by third ranked Santeros (4-1) 88-70. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Vaqueros. John Brown III fired a double-double by scoring 18 points, 11 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) for the winners. Gary Browne produced 10 points, 7 rebounds and 9 assists for lost side. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Aguada maintains third position with 4-1 record having just one point less than leader Arecibo. Defending champion Bayamon still keeps top place with two games lost. Aguada will meet Quebradillas (#6) on the road in the next round. Bayamon will play against Carolina (#6) and hope to secure a win.

There were no shocking results in the other games in round 4: Caguas lost to Aguada on the opponent's court 103-107. Winless Quebradillas unfortunately lost to Guaynabo in a home game 86-89. Manati recorded a loss to Caguas on the road 92-100. Arecibo crushed Ponce on its own court 101-82. Winless Quebradillas were smashed by Mayaguez in a road game 103-80.
The most impressive stats of the last round was 15 points, 10 rebounds and 12 assists by Olumiye Oni of Mayaguez.



Aguada - Caguas 107-103

Everything could happen in Aguada at the game between two tied teams. Both third ranked Santeros and their close opponent Criollos had identical 3-1 record. This time Santeros used a home court advantage and beat the opponent from Caguas 107-103 on Sunday night. Aguada looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. Dominican Rigoberto Mendoza (191-1992) fired 28 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists for the winners. Guard Antonio Ralat (188-1996, college: UAB) chipped in 21 points. American center Moses Brown (218-1999, college: UCLA) produced a double-double by scoring 20 points and 15 rebounds and his fellow American import point guard Travis Trice II (183-1993, college: Michigan St.) added 24 points and 7 assists respectively for lost side. Four Aguada and five Caguas players scored in double figures. Criollos' coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total twelve players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Aguada maintains third position with 4-1 record having just one point less than leader Arecibo. Loser Criollos dropped to the second place with two games lost. They share the position with Santurce and Guaynabo. Aguada will meet Quebradillas (#6) on the road in the next round. Caguas will play against the league's second-placed Guaynabo (#2) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Rather predictable result in Quebradillas where third ranked Mets (3-2) edged bottom-ranked Piratas (0-6) 89-86 on Monday. The guests started the game with a very strong first quarter 31-18. But Quebradillas won second period 26-17. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The former international Jaysean Paige (188-1994, college: WVU) fired 24 points and 5 assists for the winners. International center Ismael Romero (205-1991) chipped in a double-double by scoring 19 points and 11 rebounds. Four Mets players scored in double figures. DR Congolese guard Emmanuel Mudiay (196-1996) produced 30 points and 4 assists and American forward Kendall Munson (206, college: Jacksonville) added 18 points and 8 rebounds respectively for lost side. Piratas' coach tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Guaynabo moved-up to second place, which they share with Santurce and Caguas. Loser Piratas still closes the standings with six games lost. Guaynabo will meet Caguas (#3) on the road in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Quebradillas will play against Aguada and hope to get finally their first victory.

New Zealand forward Samuel Waardenburg (208-1999, college: Miami, FL) chipped in 22 points and 9 rebounds (made all of his ten free throws !!!). American forward Kendall Munson (206, college: Jacksonville) produced 20 points and 8 rebounds and Dominican swingman Victor Liz (190-1986) added 11 points respectively for lost side.
